November 11 Outage Update

11/11, 12 PM Humboldt/Kossuth County Update: The substations that were temporarily shut down earlier this morning are now live again. If you are still experiencing an outage, please report it via SmartHub or by calling us at (800) 833-8876.

11/11, 10 AM Humboldt/Kossuth County Update: Crews from Humboldt, Jefferson, Boone, and Iowa Falls worked late into the evening last night and were back out early this morning restoring outages. To prevent new, extended outages and to maintain the reliability of our system, several of our substations will temporarily be shut down in these counties starting around 10:15 a.m. this morning. We intend to de-energize the power lines in these areas at the time the ice will be falling off the power lines. When ice falls from power lines it can result in the lines galloping and contacting other lines which has the potential to cause lines to burn down and create extended outage times, further inconveniencing our membership. By de-energizing the lines during the time period that the ice is falling off we mitigate the potential for lines burning down and thus reduce outage times overall. We appreciate your patience in our efforts to restore power.
