ACCOUNTANT - JEFFERSON, IA

Seeking a self-motivated individual to join our team full-time as an ACCOUNTANT in our Jefferson, IA office. This position will transition to a future location in Boone, IA in 2020. The candidate will perform the duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reporting, and financials. 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Prepares ledgers, journals, registers, and subsidiary records in conformance with generally accepted accounting practices and procedures. 
  • Processes invoices, miscellaneous receivables, work orders, and other paperwork. 
  • Applies accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. 
  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital. Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected financial position. 
  • Stays current on the RUS system of accounts and accounting practices. 
  • Supports Midland Power's Mission Statement and exemplifies the organizational values of teamwork, accountability, safety, integrity, excellence and commitment to community. 

Skills & Abilities:

Must demonstrate good communication skills with coworkers, supervisor(s), members, vendors, and other parties. Proficiency in cost accounting skills and abilities is required. Be willing to learn about the Cooperative’s services and programs, processes, and procedures. Possess the ability to handle a variety of diverse tasks including multiple projects and be able to meet deadlines. Must have experience using Microsoft Office programs and the ability to learn new software programs related to the industry and duties as assigned.

Education & Experience: 

Prior accounting or financial experience is preferred. A Bachelor's or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 

Licenses & Certifications: 

A valid Driver's License is required. 

Working Conditions: 

Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality is necessary.The work is primarily office work in an indoor, climate-controlled environment. Occasional travel for trainings and meetings is necessary. Overnight stays for trainings may be required occasionally. Must be willing to work overtime as needed.

TEMPORARY 1,000 HOUR LINEMAN - BOONE, IA

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform line construction and maintenance of overhead and URD distribution lines under the supervision of a First Class Lineman or Foreman.
  • Patrol the line and check for defective materials, equipment or unsafe conditions; notify foreman or supervisor of problems found.
  • Perform the duties of groundsman and lineman. See that trucks, tools, and assigned equipment are properly used and kept in good working order.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Understand considerable hazards that exist, including falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic, and falling objects.
  • Understand and utilize safety equipment.
  • Learn and comply with all safety policies, OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to utilize computers and iPad tablets is required.
  • Ability to understand safety material and instructions is also required.
  • Applicant must be able to lift up to 100 pounds.

Education & Experience:

Applicant must possess a HS Diploma and Degree from an accredited Utility Line Program.

Working Conditions:

This position would be located at our Boone, IA Service Center - 1781 219th Ln, Boone. The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and frequently works near moving mechanical parts, exposed to vibrations, and works on rugged terrain.

A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
